June 2, 2006 (Press Release) --
I have recently returned to Canada and am working with E-Zone Management Consultancy & matcco Group to further promote Canadian Education in Asia and the Middle East.
Upon graduating from Memorial University (MUN), I decided to head to Korea, as many young Canadians to teach English. I had a wide range of students from school aged kids to presidents of big Korean companies. I decided that teaching English was more than a job for me, it was something which I enjoyed doing! I later went on to work for the Canadian Education Centre Network’s CLI (Cultural and Language Institute) in Seoul, Korea. We offered the students English instruction (with a true Canadian accent), and quality instruction by qualified Canadian instructors; as well as gave them a Canadian style of education and experiences. Most of our students were planning to immigrate and/or study in Canada, or they just wanted the quality which we were providing. Canada has become such a brand name in Korea that everyone wanted to become part of the CLI.
I was glad to be part of this all and I moved up to become the Adult Program Co-ordinator and Interim Acting Director of the CLI; only to be asked to re-locate to Vietnam to bring a bit of this to our future location there.
Canada was not as well known in Vietnam, so I had to work closely with the CEC Manager, the Canadian Consular General and the Consulate, and Cancham (the Canadian Chamber of Commerce) to build up the Canadian brand name. The CEC was to become a stepping stone for many young Vietnamese in their further studies.
During my time in Asia, I had the opportunity to travel to many countries and I was always welcomed with open arms because I was a Canadian. I realized how important being Canadian actually was. I also had the opportunity to meet many representatives from the various schools, universities and so on from Canada who were there to promote Canadian Education.
The one thing which I had come to realize during my time in Asia is that: English and our Education System is very important to us as Canadians and many do not realize it!
