To start with in January this year, Russia cut the gas supply to Ukraine, to have a favorable impact on the supply to Western Europe. Russia’s gas policies have had an international impact also. Western countries have expressed concern that Russia is using its oil and gas resources as political tools.

Russia has further strengthened its hold by warning that oil firms in US would find business short in case the US differentiates against Russia in the WTO negotiations.
