June 9, 2006 (Press Release) --
The Eugene Men’s Lacrosse Club hosts the 2006 Willamette Valley Lacrosse Celebration (WVLC) on Saturday, June 24th at Sheldon High School in Eugene Oregon. Games begin @ 10:00AM. The WVLC highlights the achievements of regional high school student athletes and honors the selfless dedication of associated parents and mentors.
The Eugene Men’s Lacrosse Club foster’s the development of the Willamette Valley Lacrosse Community. The WVLC provides a platform upon which to gather elements of a rapidly expending regional lacrosse community. Participants include lacrosse players, parents of lacrosse players, educators, fans, and businesses that support the development of lacrosse in our region. This event cultivates our sense of community and assists in the development of lacrosse programs throughout the Willamette Valley.
Community, social, and awards ceremony events surround the play of four lacrosse games. This four game format showcases the interwoven character of our lacrosse community and the talent of regional participants. The participation of regional boy’s and girl’s high school lacrosse players voted to the 1st Team, 2nd Team, and those receiving Honorable Mentioned will be highlighted. A youth game assists in displaying the growth, development, and the ever-increasing regional interest in lacrosse. The multidimensional contributions of active lacrosse coaches, parents, mentors and officials, (many of whom still play at the post collegiate level) will be acknowledged.
Game 1: Willamette Valley North vs. South “Honors Match”. Teams consist of conference players selected 2nd Team All Conference & those receiving Honorable Mention. North vs. South competition.
Game 2: Girl’s Conference All-star game. Women laxers from across the valley gather to test their skills against the best.
Game 3: Youth lacrosse exhibition. This youth game celebrates our regions ever increasing fascination with the fastest game on two feet. Youth lacrosse builds for the future, and the future’s looking bright.
Game 4: First Team All Conference (Willamette North & South) vs. The Willamette Valley Lacrosse Mentors. The ‘Mentors’ are adult figures from our lacrosse community who contribute to the development of lacrosse in the Willamette Valley and continue to play the game. Mentors consist of regional head coaches, assistant coaches, officials and lacrosse organizers. This is a regional All-star vs. Mentors lacrosse game.
The WVLC is a fund raising celebration that highlights the development of lacrosse in the Willamette Valley. Our aims include the cultivation of community interaction and connectivity, encouraging good sportsmanship, and respect for the game. Interested in lacrosse? The entire Willamette Valley community is invited to attend. Lacrosse games, awards, prize give-a-ways, player gifts, raffles, fund raising, and recognition of community support.
