June 19, 2006 (Press Release) --
Sexy, sensual, and sincere, IVA is a «shining star» with the voice of an angel. Her sound is charged with purity and soul, her stage presence elegant and electric. Originally trained as a classical singer, she began her career at age nine on the operatic stage and evolved to prestigious classical stages like the Aspen Music Festival and New York's Lincoln Center.
IVA broke into the mainstream when she sang on NBC's Late Night with Conan O'Brien. Inspired to reach a wider audience, she started working on her own material. «I could easily switch between my operatic sound and a natural, 'pop' voice. I tried to hide it from classical colleagues, worried people would disapprove. I then realized it was my special sound and I should use it!»
At Conan's Christmas party she met producer/songwriter Manech Ibar, ("three to tango" soundtrack, Ulu, Lettuce, Soulive, and Sony Music exec). Both made a big impression on the other. "I was first struck by IVA's charisma. She stood out among everyone at the party,» says Ibar. «But when IVA first came over to work, I expected a rigid opera singer. Then I heard this pure, natural, angelic voice come out of her. I was delightfully suprised. She sounded like a young Emmy Lou Harris with energy.»
In 2004 IVA moved to Stockholm, Sweden, her ancestral home, when she was awarded the Fulbright Grant for Performing Artists. At the same time Ibar moved to his native France and on to Brussels, Belgium to focus all his energies on expanding Vurse, his artist management and production company with partner Paul Geluso. Between classical performances in Sweden, IVA traveled to Brussels to perform her own music. She began to build her audience at Club 144, Havana, The Living Room, 50aire, and Hauteville Theatre and was picked up by promoters like Sanders, Check-In, and JourneyIslandEvents.
«The more I performed my music, the more my pop and my opera improved,» says IVA. «I felt free to express myself in a way I never could when singing only classical rep.»
«I have always written music without thinking of whether it was pop or classical. I focused on what the song desired.» says Ibar. «But working on classical projects at Sony opened my ear to even more possibilities, especially with many crossover projects like CHarlotte Church or Yo-Yo Ma. IVA and I were able to work with the same sound in mind early on from our interest in combining many genres that we both enjoyed listening to.»
IVA's self-titled EP consists of eight songs that demonstrate a sound uniquely her own. She mixes heart-felt ballads, club tracks, and progressive soundscapes that use both pop and classical influences. in short ELECTRIC ORGANIC OPERATIC POP.
"On this album I was able to combine different styles of music without ever compromising my standards, says IVA. It gets to the essence of all music, that gut sound that gives you goose bumps and transports you beyond the everyday."
IVA brings her act and EP to Sweden in June 2006, with a CD release party at Blue Moon Bar, Stockholm June 21, 2006.
