Recent Rush Limbaugh events recounted below:
Rush Limbaugh was detained for more than three hours Monday at Palm Beach International Airport after authorities alldgedly discovered a bottle of Viagra in his possession without a prescription.
The bottle identified by customs officials apparently was labeled as Viagra in his luggage but didn't have Limbaugh's name on it and instead had the name of two doctors, said Paul Miller, spokesman for the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.
A doctor allegedly had prescribed the drug, but it was "labeled as being issued to the physician rather than Rush Limbaugh for privacy purposes," Roy Black, Limbaugh's attorney, said in a statement.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection examined the 55-year-old radio commentator's luggage immediately following the landing of Mr. Limbaugh's private airplane arriving from the Dominican Republic, said Miller.
The matter was referred to the sheriff's office, whose investigators interviewed Rush Limbaugh. According to Miller, Mr. Limbaugh said that the Viagra was for his personal use, and that he obtained it from doctors.
Investigators confiscated the drugs, which treats erectile dysfunction, and Mr. Limbaugh was released without any charges beign filed against Mr. Limbaugh.
The sheriff's office plans to file a report with the state attorney's office.
Limbaugh reached a deal last month with prosecutors who had accused the very popular conservative talk-show host of illegally deceiving multiple doctors to receive overlapping painkiller prescriptions. Under the arrangement, the charge, commonly referred to as "doctor shopping," would be dismissed after 18 months if he continues to submit to random drug tests and treatment for his acknowledged addiction to painkillers.
Before his own problems became public, Limbaugh had decried drug use and abuse and mocked President Clinton for saying he had not inhaled when he tried marijuana. He often made the case that drug crimes deserve punishment.
"Drug use, some might say, is destroying this country. And we have laws against selling drugs, pushing drugs, using drugs, importing drugs. ... And so if people are violating the law by doing drugs, they ought to be accused and they ought to be convicted and they ought to be sent up," Limbaugh said on his short-lived television show on Oct. 5, 1995.
