On Sunday 2 July 2006, a week to the day before the Final of the 2006 FIFA World Cup™, there will be a free classical concert outside the Brandenburg Gate (beginning at 9pm). The DFB's cultural foundation and the Berlin German Symphony Orchestra will be pulling out all the stops to make this a fitting climax to the federal government's art and culture programme.
Under the baton of future conductor Ingo Metzmacher, the Berlin German Symphony Orchestra will take listeners on a journey around the various competing nations at Germany 2006. This will include performances from virtuoso violinist Maxim Vengerov and internationally acclaimed trumpeter Hakan Hardenberger.
The art and culture programme is the biggest ever seen at a FIFA World Cup, and saw 48 top-quality projects chosen from over 400 proposals. The core of the programme was the Football Globe, which toured around the 12 Host Cities in the lead-up to the 2006 FIFA World Cup and drew over a million visitors.
