FreePB.org plans 4th of July Beach Clean-Up Program
San Diego, CA – (June 28, 2006)
FreePB.org in conjunction with the San Diego Police Department, Keep California Beautiful, the Independent Grocers & Convenient Stores (IGCS), ALC Legal Technologies, Come Clean San Diego, DJ Here, South Coast Surf Shops, Lahiana Beach House, The Local, Yellow Cab, Canes, The Tavern Sand Bar and Sobe Adrenaline Rush are presenting the 2nd Annual FreePB.org “Fourth of July Keep Our Beaches Beautiful” program and Sobe 6PM Pick–Me-Up this July 4th Holiday.
FreePB.org and our sponsors will be donating 120 huge (3’l x 6’w x 4h) corrugated trash bins to the City of San Diego for use at our parks and beaches this Fourth of July. These bins will be placed in areas that receive the highest density of visitors; Ocean Beach, Mission Beach, Pacific Beach, Mission Bay Park and La Jolla. It is estimated that these bins will be used by more that 100,000 beachgoers and will hold over 50 tons of trash. Last year the City of San Diego Parks and Recreation department estimated that the FreePB.org giant trash bins and Sobe 6PM Pick-Me-Up helped to reduce the garbage on the beach by 50%.
In addition, FreePB.org volunteers will be canvassing these areas at a 6pm, handing out trash bags and rewarding those who fill a trash bag and place it in a FreePB.org trash bin with an ice cold Sobe Adrenaline Rush drink.
In an effort to help educate the public about what is and is not allowed, and to help promote a fun and safe 4th of July on our beaches, bays and parks, Freepb.org has also worked closely with the San Diego Police Department by providing the beach rules on every giant trash bin. Keep California Beautiful has donated thousands of trash bags that will be attached to the outside of the giant bins for people to use for free throughout the day.
