Mozart beneath the Stars Music Film Festival on City Hall Square

(Free-Press-Release.com) July 24, 2006 -- The neo-gothic City Hall is the stunning backdrop for the immensely popular Music Film Festival, taking place this year from July 1 to September 3.
In Mozart Year the festival is completely given over to the musical maestro. Every evening, Mozart operas and concerts performed at the most prestigious venues in the world will be projected onto a giant screen set up in front of 3,000 seats. Ballet, trick and documentary films also feature.

As ever, admission is free and two dozen refreshment booths dish up mouthwatering morsels taking in culinary favorites from around the globe.

Don Giovannis for Connoisseurs

The KlangBogen summer music festival from July 20 through August 20, 2006 embraces a broad spectrum of musical events, from great Mozart opera to magnificent orchestral works.

The character of Don Giovanni features prominently. On ten evenings at the Theater an der Wien Bertrand de Billy is conducting Mozart�s �Don Giovanni�. Mozart�s librettist Lorenzo da Ponte depicted the lead figure as an erotic seducer and rapist, blasphemer, aristocratic gentleman and murderer all in one. �Flammen� is the title of a surreal and psychoanalytical adaptation of the Don Giovanni legend by Erwin Schulhoff. Both works are directed by Keith Warner.

Meanwhile, at Semperdepot the New Opera Vienna is staging �Don Juan Returns from the War� by Denmark�s Erik H�jsgaard. Concert highlights at the Theater an der Wien include a Mozart program by star violinist Julian Rachlin and the Wiener Virtuosen (July 25), an evening of song with Diana Damrau and Iv�n Paley (Aug. 8) and piano concertos by Mozart and Chopin performed by Rudolf Buchbinder (Aug. 20).
