Although the topics are far reaching, the discussions usually take place between close work mates and friends. Rarely do these miners get the opportunity to discuss matters with miners from other regions or states.

The Managing Director of miningreference.com, Calvin Close has spent almost 20 years in the NSW coal mining industry, so he knows how miners like to discuss matters that are relevant to their work. Mr Close said that, "every time I went into a crib room during lunch time, I would hear these topics discussed - often with real zeal and emotion".
Mr Close added, "I knew by the way these matters were discussed, that talking about them meant a lot to the miners, so we came up with the idea to provide a place for these discussions to take place online.
"Having a place online allows people from all over Australia (and the rest of the world) to discuss just about any topic relating to the mining industry. The discussion is not limited to a person's circle of friends, peers or even the local town.
