August 1, 2006 (Press Release) --
Edina, MN, August 1, 2006 - The cosmetic industry is being referred to by some experts as "the wild, wild, west." With thousands of providers touting dozens of new cosmetic products and techniques each month, consumers may find it overwhelming to distinguish which treatment is right for them. One particularly gray area involves body sculpting. A new treatment called LipoDissolve® is being called by industry experts as "the most exciting emergence in cosmetic medicine since Botox." Two board-certified physicians at Skin Rejuvenation Clinic in the Twin Cities/Minneapolis area clarify what LipoDissolve is and how it differs from the more widely recognized treatment, meso-therapy.
According to Dr. Elizabeth Hagberg, owner of Skin Rejuvenation Clinic in Edina, MN, many physicians and providers are using the terms “mesotherapy” and “LipoDissolve” interchangeably, creating some confusion for consumers. “Although the two treatments are very similar, there are notable differences,” she said. “Unlike traditional meso-therapy, which involves treating the lumps and bumps just under the skin layer, LipoDissolve is a deeper injection into the fat.
LipoDissolve has been utilized for cosmetic purposes since the mid 90s. It is a non-surgical treatment which involves a naturally occurring enzyme solution (and soy product) called phosphatidylcholine deoxycholate, or PCDC, which is administered through a series of micro-injections to permanently dissolve the fat in unwanted areas. PCDC has been used in various medical applications since the 1950s.
After the LipoDissolve injections are administered, fat cells are broken down, absorbed and excreted by the body. The treatment is a safe and effective solution, consistently and predictably dissolving fat in areas hard to target with exercise such as the upper and lower abdomen, thighs, buttocks, arms and chin. LipoDissolve injections can also be used to improve the appearance of cellulite. It is known to be safe and provides significantly less downtime than surgical procedures such as liposuction and abdominoplasty. Traditionally after a LipoDissolve treatment, there is no requirement for bed rest or reduced activity.
Meso-therapy on the other hand is the practice of using a series of micro-injections consisting of a wide range of vitamins, minerals, amino acids and medications placed just under the surface of the skin in the mesoderm.
Dr. Mark Hagberg, co-owner of Skin Rejuvenation Clinic, explained that he and his wife Elizabeth chose to offer LipoDissolve rather than general mesotherapy for several reasons. “There has not been a standardized formulation for the procedure. We don’t feel these superficial injections are as effective in the breakdown of fat as the deeper injections of LipoDissolve,” he explained. “Also a traditional meso-therapy treatment plan would often involve more sessions than a LipoDissolve treatment plan.”
"We researched each treatment and continue to be amazed at the results patients are receiving after a series of LipoDissolve injections," Dr. Mark said. "We wanted to offer our clients the treatment we felt would provide them with the most dramatic results, while maintaining the peace of mind they come to expect."
