August 3, 2006 (Press Release) -- Recently, Delphi Academy of San Francisco Bay students, alumni and their families gathered at the Santa Clara campus to celebrate Delphi Academy's 20th Anniversary with student performances and other festivities.

Twenty years ago, executives from the Delphian School, a prestigious boarding school outside Portland, Oregon came to the Bay Area. Meeting with supporters and alumni, they trained a group that became the first staff of Delphi Academy of San Francisco Bay. From 1986-1996 Delphi Academy was located in Palo Alto, but it gradually outgrew its campus. In 1996 it relocated to its present site at 890 Pomeroy Avenue in Santa Clara.

Over the years, 761 students have attended the Delphi Academy of San Francisco Bay, benefiting from small class sizes, weekly field trips and lots of hands-on activities supplementing a strong academic core. The private, non-sectarian K-8 school utilizes Study Technology, developed by educator and philosopher L. Ron Hubbard. It emphasizes practical application of material learned rather than memorization of facts, good communication skills, the understanding of moral codes, logic and ethics as part of the curriculum.

On Friday evening, June 16th, many Delphi Academy alumni gathered with current students to celebrate twenty years of education and community. Headmistress Marcy Green opened the ceremonies, welcoming all students, families and alumni and thanking them for their contributions over the years to make Delphi Academy a continual success. Her speech was followed by the graduation of this year’s graduates.

After an Awards Ceremony where students were commended for their abilities and good work, the students and staff remained on stage to sing “Happy Birthday” to Delphi in front of a cake with twenty candles. The Delphi Academy Choir then performed two songs, “I’ve Got A Friend” and “You Never Walk Alone”, to great applause.

Outside the auditorium, music began to play and the crowd streamed out on the lawn to find parent deejay Ed Hackett, beautiful tables with handmade centerpieces and a delicious buffet. Children danced to the music and adults mingled as they enjoyed the hot food. Photos of Delphi Academy year by year were mounted on posters along one wall and alumni enjoyed finding themselves, former classmates and teachers in the pictures.

“The 20th Anniversary celebration marks an important day for our school,” said Maria Agrillo, Head of Admissions, “It reminds us of all the children we’ve helped to grow positively and sent on their way...”
