August 10, 2006 (Press Release) --
Apocalypto Woe
South Park repeats its "The Passion of the Jew" parody tonight at 10, and it's the only Mel Gibson video you may be seeing for a while. For starters, the Oscar winner's Apocalypto, which had been scheduled for a November release, is rumored to be on the chopping block at Disney. FoxNews.com gossiper Roger Friedman reports that the Mouse is shopping the Mayan historical epic around to other potential distributors. And then there's that other Mel movie, the one of the actor-director's infamous anti-Semitic rant, which followed his July 29 arrest for drunken driving in Malibu, Calif. Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department officials have denied a request by gossip website TMZ.com to release the audio and video tapes of the tirade, claiming it's investigatory matter. TMZ, which initially broke the Gibson story, hoped to discern whether Gibson was given preferential treatment. So, Mel … now would be a good time for a tell-all sit-down with Oprah, no?
