Articles from several eminent writers and journalists in the world are incorporated in the book. BPL will distribute this book in domestic and international market.
Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury is the editor and publisher of Weekly Blitz, who was arrested on 29th November 2003 at Zia International Airport, when he was about to board a Bangkok bound flight. Choudhury was scheduled to attend a seminar organized by Hebrew Writer’s Association. Later, Bangladesh government brought sedition charge against him, which awaits trial at the Metropolitan Session Judge’s court in Dhaka.
Meanwhile, US Congress, while passing the Appropriation Bill 2007 made some remarks on the false sedition case of Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury. It said, “The Committee recognizes the steps taken by the Government of Bangladesh to combat terrorism and extremism and notes the challenges posed to the government by Islamic fundamentalism. However, the committee is troubled by the Government of Bangladesh handling of the case of Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury, an advocate of religious freedom and interfaith dialogue who was recently released from prison after being held for eighteen months without due process of law. The Committee remains concerned about the sedition charges still facing Mr. Choudhury and the potential for a death sentence in the event of a conviction.”
Earlier members of Bangladesh Caucus in the US Congress sent a letter to Bangladesh government with the request of immediately dropping the false sedition charge. The government did not pay any heed to international calls anticipating adverse reactions from Islamist radicals within and outside the government.
