(RALEIGH, NC) - Aug. 15, 2006 – Take the characteristics of being an African American female who participates in high-speed motorsports, and couple that with the talent of being an educated, well-rounded, and community-conscious individual – then you have Candyce Marsh; a new breed of sports competitor who is raising the bar on how to win both on and off the racetrack.
As an uninhibited, dynamic individual Candyce Marsh, a drag racing competitor is paving the way in the motorsports arena. But, according to Marsh, “It’s far beyond ethnicity that inevitably drives competitors like myself to the finish line; It’s the talent, hard work and dedication to the sport.”
Similar to Serena and Venus Williams, Candyce Marsh launched her career at an early age. With the guidance of her father, a racer himself, Marsh at seventeen years old made her début on the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) national event tour in the Hot Rod class. After completing just two seasons there, she was able to gain a substantial amount of driving experience and increase her knowledge of racing. These successes led her towards establishing a name for herself within the racing community. In 2000, she formed Candyce Marsh Racing and aligned her team with industry leaders. Marsh expanded her race program to include a state of the art engine prepared by AC Delco sponsored Harold Martin. Marsh then transitioned into the Top Sportsman class, putting her one-step closer to fulfilling her dream of being a professional racecar driver.
Marsh entered the 2005-racing season eager to continue her quest to become a leader with professional motorsports. Well known manufacturer, Bar’s Products, maker of Bar’s Leaks, was the team’s primary sponsor. On the racetrack Marsh and her team set the bar among her fellow competitors by qualifying in the number 1 position at two national events, a feat no other driver was able to accomplish during the 2005-racing season. Additionally, Marsh generated substantial exposure off the racetrack by being featured in newspapers and evening news programs across the country. While Marsh was pleased with her performance, she has even higher ambitions to compete in a professional category called Pro Modified.
With numerous accomplishments already under her belt, Marsh could easily become the next “Tiger Woods” of motorsports. In addition to the many advances within motorsports, Marsh has made tremendous strides in achieving her educational goals. In May of 2003, Marsh graduated with two Bachelor of Science degrees in Accounting and Business Administration with a concentration in finance from Elon University in Burlington, North Carolina. In May of 2005, she continued her education and graduated from North Carolina A&T State University with her Master’s degree in Industrial Technology.
