No More Cell Phone Early Termination Fees!

If you’ve had it with your cell phone service, but still have months left on your contract, there's a Web site that will help you switch providers mid-plan without getting socked with a hefty early termination fee.
Celltradeusa.com is match-making service that connects people who want to get out of their cell phone contracts with people who are willing to take them over.
Here's how it works. The person taking over the contract submits a credit application to the cell phone service provider. The company will make a decision based on the applicant's credit. If approved, both the person giving up their plan and the person picking it up will have to verbally approve the transfer, or they will have to go to a corporate store to sign transfer documents. The MVNO Helio had an unfriendly policy of only allowing transfers from one Helio member to another Helio member. Other people from out of their network are not allowed to assume someone’s contract. All the other providers such as T-Mobile,Cingular Wireless,Verizon Wireless,Sprint PCS, Nextel & Ampd Mobile offer this transfer option to their customers.
Luis Rivera, a student at NYU, tried Celltradeusa.com to get out of his cell phone contract, after having transferred from Temple University in Philadelphia, had no service in his dorm. His provider wanted to charge him a $200 termination fee.
“I posted my ad for my phone. I was giving away my Samsung flip, and within a few hours I got a few people to respond. I also took my unique Celltrade ad link and advertised it on NJville.com and Craigslist.com."
Luis said he advertised his Celltradeusa ad link, and finally someone he found through NJville.com ended up taking over the contract.
“I was thankful because $200 hurts as a student living in Jersey City going to school in Manhattan.”
Celltradeusa.com charges $19.99 to have your phone services transferred, but there's no charge if you log on to take over someone's contract.
