September 8, 2006 (Press Release) --
Prepare to be spooked by the ‘Frightening Fantasies’ featured at the 31st International Vintage Poster Fair coming to New York City the weekend of October 20. Spine-chilling original vintage posters featuring devils, ghouls, beastly images and costume dress will be highlighted at this year’s show in celebration of All Hollows Eve. The Fair will be held in the heart of Chelsea’s thriving art community in Manhattan at the Metropolitan Pavilion’s 4th floor Gallery, 123 West 18th Street.
Original vintage posters are a unique form of cultural history and come from almost every corner of the world. The International Vintage Poster Fair features over 25 dealers from across the United States and Western Europe. Showgoers will have the opportunity to purchase the perfect piece of artwork for their home, office or private collection when they visit the Fair, the oldest and largest exposition and sale in the world devoted exclusively to original vintage posters.
Over 10,000 original vintage posters — some one-of-a-kind treasures — from the 1890s through the 1980s will be offered for sale. These European and American original vintage posters are among the finest examples of designers’ artistry and represent many eras including Belle Époque, Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Moderne and the Atomic Age.
In addition to the ‘Frightening Fantasies’ highlighted this year, original vintage posters of every genre including entertainment, movie, military, sports, travel, food, and product advertising will be available. Artists represented include many other great masters of the late-nineteenth and twentieth centuries including Cassandre, Christy, Rockwell, Cappiello, and Steinlen. Members of the International Vintage Poster Dealers Association vet all posters for authenticity.
The International Vintage Poster Fairs are held annually in Chicago, New York and San Francisco. The Fairs are now under the new ownership of three international poster dealers: Gail Chisholm of Chisholm Gallery in New York, David Pollack of David Pollack Vintage Posters in Connecticut and Mireille Romand of Galerie Documents in Paris. “We’re thrilled to continue the tradition of the well-regarded International Vintage Poster Fair and pleased to bring new offerings to the Fairs,” notes Chisholm.
Fair hours in New York City are: Friday, October 20 from 5 to 9 pm; Saturday, October 21 from 10am to 7pm; and Sunday, October 22 from 11am to 6pm. Admission is $12 or $20 for a two-day pass.
