Gordonsville, Virginia September 4, 2006 — Our family had a vision of creating fine food based on the recipes of Virginia families, using the bounty of the season to evoke the tantalizing foods of a Virginia Farm kitchen. It is these recipes featuring top-notch ingredients that resonates the vibrancy of Virginia life. Extending its leadership in offering foods that celebrate the richness of Virginia Agriculture, Montebello Kitchens today announced the release of their Strawberry Rhubarb jam. This jam is the perfect complement to the current line of stone-ground bread mixes.
Montebello Kitchens Strawberry Rhubarb jam is a perfect accompaniment for scones or serve over creamed cheese with crackers for a wonderful freshness everyone loves. A little history about rhubarb: Marco Polo, who knew all about the Chinese rhubarb rhizome, talked about it at length in the accounts of his travels in China, and the rhubarb was widely used in European pharmacies. A planting of rhubarb is recorded in Italy in 1608 and 20-30 years later in Europe. In 1778 rhubarb is recorded as a food plant in Europe. The earliest known usage of rhubarb as a food appeared as a filling for tarts & pies.
The Strawberry Rhubarb jam will be available at fine gourmet and specialty food stores throughout Virginia and online at www.montebellokitchens.com
