Baby Boomers are finding that they can't retire, things did not go as planned and suddenly they are greeters at Wal-mart or behind the counter at McDonalds! There is a better way...

What's going on? With a large majority of the population in North America falling in the category "Baby Boomers" turning 60 and 60 plus at this time, why are we seeing them showing up more and more in the work force at places like Target, Wal-Mart and fast food restaurants when they ought to and deserve to be retiring in style?
Truth is, that was the plan. Baby Boomers are known as the generation who got to "enjoy" it all. They had the housing and stock market boons of the last century, a flourishing job market and their university degrees actually did secure them a place in corporate America. They are known for living a decent life, some more so, and they did plan for their futures. They have retirement funds, and other such resources that they have put money in for year, so what happened? Why to we see so many being forced out of where they were working but not being able to stop working?
The answer is probably pretty close to the situation I'm about to describe. The next generation, their kids, came along at a time with the economy was changing, jobs and markets were shifting, outsourcing and downsizing became more prevalent, and looking good even if it was beyond their means was considered something one did just to keep up. Their children discovered the ever rotating reality of credit card debt and at one point of another have had to rely on Mom and Dad to help them which meant Mom and Dad dipped into their retirement fund. The Grandkids deserved a college education and even through their kids were married and both working it became the generosity of Grandma and Grandpa that made that possible, dipping again into their retirement fund.
Lay offs, family emergencies and divorce, leaving a single parent scenario who wasn’t quite able to make it on their own, all fell upon Mom and Dad and once again that resource, their retirement fund became more and more sparse.
Investments and some of the awful realities of the investment scandals didn't help as there were many who had their retirement tied up in those investments and lost much and in some cases all of their retirement monies. The rising cost of living, didn't match their savings plans, health issues etc., have all become possible scenarios that have left many of the baby boomers unable to retire.
The reason we see more of these folks working in places like Wal-Mart or Target or fast food chains is because unfortunately they are not seen as "employable" by Corporate America or many other companies who value youth over wisdom and I personally believe they are losing out. However, that is the way it is. It's not fair, nor do I believe baby boomers should be having to work when they truly deserve to enjoy the fruits of their labors.
So, what can they do? Or, if I have been speaking to you, what can you do?
