September 14, 2006 (Press Release) --
Palo Alto, CA (September 14, 2006) – The Pacific Graduate School of Psychology (PGSP), a private, independent professional school educating doctoral students in Palo Alto, announced today the addition of a bachelor’s degree program. PGSP has formed an agreement with De Anza College which will allow PGSP professors to teach bachelor’s degree level coursework at the De Anza College campus starting at the end of this month. This new program – dubbed “P3” for Psychology: Passion & Promise – will be the first time PGSP has offered a bachelor’s degree.
“We are delighted to bring this opportunity to the De Anza student body by expanding our program beyond the doctoral degree,” noted Dr. Allen Calvin, President of PGSP. “Our faculty is eager to get started.”
Upon the successful completion of an associate degree, De Anza students will continue coursework toward a bachelor’s degree in psychology at De Anza but classes will be led by PGSP faculty and students will receive a degree from PGSP. All courses will be conducted at the De Anza campus.
"The “P3 program will allow De Anza College psychology students to benefit from a seamless transition from an associate to baccalaureate degree," said Dr. Brian Murphy, president of De Anza College. "We are very proud of this unique and significant partnership with PGSP."
Built around the theme of “The Science of Social Action in a Global Community,” the goal of the P3 program is to prepare students for a lifetime of initiating positive change in a global society. Students will be exposed to practical experience through research projects and clinical experiences, culminating in an examination of the social actions and cultural contexts of human behavior.
Several De Anza students that have completed their associate’s degrees will begin the P3 program on September 25, the start of the De Anza College school year. To earn a bachelor’s degree in this new P3 program, students will be required to complete 90 units of coursework beyond the associate’s degree, with a 2.5 or higher GPA with 45 quarter units of psychology.
"We look forward to recognizing the first class of PGSP bachelor's degree graduates in 2008," said Dr. Martha Kanter, chancellor of the Foothill-De Anza Community College District and PGSP trustee. "This partnership represents a new form of collaboration in higher education,"
For more information on the P3 program, students may visit PGSP’s administrative offices located in the Student Community Services building (SCS) on the De Anza campus. For more information online or by phone, please go to http://p3.pgsp.edu or call (800) 818-6136.
