The movie begins by focusing on the controversy surrounding the publication of Franken's 2003 best seller "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them," but drops this theme when a suit by the Fox News Channel - which had objected to Franken cheekily appropriating the channel's "Fair and Balanced" slogan - is quickly thrown out of court.
The film superficially covers the difficult birth of the left-leaning Air America radio network (with Franken as its best-known name), Franken's campaigning for Democrats during the 2004 election, his USO tours in Iraq, and his more recent interest in running for the Senate from Minnesota.
There are also some choice clips from Franken's "Saturday Night Live" days (including an especially funny one with Al Gore), but the most revealing segments are Franken's confrontations with conservative spinmeisters.

Sean Hannity and Michael Medved exhibit a sense of humor, but Ann Coulter and Franken's archnemesis Bill O'Reilly are both notably uncomfortable in his presence in "Al Franken: God Spoke."
