September 20, 2006 (Press Release) --
COLUMBUS, Ohio – At 6:30pm on Thursday, September 21, 2006, the students and faculty of Jane’s Montessori Academy, 1375 Francisco Road, will plant a Peace Pole with the words “May Peace Prevail On Earth” inscribed on it in four separate languages: English, Spanish, Yiddish and Hindi. Special guests have been invited to read the inscriptions and speak about their thoughts on peace. Other activities have also been planned and the administration at Jane’s Montessori Academy will supply refreshments. The community is welcome to attend the activities.
“Peace Poles are a hall mark of Montessori education and we can think of no better day to plant our Peace Pole than on the International Day of Peace,” said Jane’s Montessori Academy principal Tammy Chabria. “Hopefully we will bring some awareness to our students and to the community about little things they can do to promote peace throughout the world.”
The Peace Pole Project was started in 1955 and there are currently more than 200,000 Peace Poles all around the world, including one at the North Pole and one at the Pyramids in Egypt. Simply put, Peace Poles serve as a marker that a particular location is dedicated to peace. More information on the Peace Pole Project can be found at http://www.worldpeace.org/peacepoles.html.
The International Day of Peace takes place every year on September 21st. It is a day when individuals and organizations around the world make efforts of all kinds to secure a more peaceful world. More information can be found at http://www.internationaldayofpeace.org.
Jane’s Montessori Academy was named in honor of Jane Wolfe Chabria who founded the first Montessori school in Columbus in 1965.
