September 24, 2006 (Press Release) --
29-year-old Stephen Brady from Glasgow set up a unique website www.stepuptoamillion.com last month, with an idea that's never been
tried before.
Already he is being compared to British internet entrepreneur Alex Tew, who
made $1 million with his unique Million Dollar Homepage earlier this year.
On www.stepuptoamillion.com, Stephen will sell just 21 advertising tiles.
The price doubles as each tile is sold - the first sold for 1, the 21st will sell for 1 million.
And when they have all been sold, he will give 1 million to one of the 21 advertisers at random and hand over the website, to the top advertiser.
Stephen said: "I came up with the idea while stripping wallpaper. I was pulling down a strip of paper and the figures 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64 were written on the wall. I noticed the figures doubled at each step, and was pretty surprised when it only took 21 steps to reach 1 million."
He added: "Its crazy, but crazy is whats making it work. Some people thought I would never sell 1 tile and when the first sold they said I would sell no more, but Im now at No.9 and looking good for the top. Millions is spent on advertising each day and I believe this site will become famous the world over, generating loads of web traffic to the 21 advertisers."
Eight of the advertising tiles have already sold for more than their original asking price. Now number 9 is being auctioned on eBay, for a minimum of 256.
Stephen's goal is to prove that we can create anything we can imagine by completing the website and sell all 21 tiles by the 7th July next year - 07/07/07. (21)
He said: Stranger things have happened on the internet. All I need is a global audience and this website, when completed, will be worth more than the million it sells for. The right person will buy their place and the last space will sell along with the website and domain name.
