September 26, 2006 (Press Release) --
Only Oprah Winfrey could get Oprah Winfreyto open up about the "wardrobe malfunction" at the 2004 Super Bowl.
"It was a very embarrassing moment," Jackson said Monday on "The Oprah Winfrey Show."
Jackson, who hasn't spoken publicly about the incident, was joined by Justin Timberlake to sing his hit "Rock Your Body" during the halftime show. As Timberlake sang, "I gotta have you naked by the end of this song," he ripped off Jackson's bustier, exposing her breast and a sun-shaped nipple shield.
The incident wasn't planned, Jackson said. "What people don't understand is, he was to rip the piece off that he did, but more came off than what was supposed to."
The Federal Communications Commission received more than 500,000 complaints and later fined CBS $550,000.
One day after the Super Bowl, Jackson released a videotaped apology, a move she now regrets. "Before I sat down to record the apology, I had said to them, 'Why am I apologizing for an accident?' "
Although she still considers Timberlake a friend, Jackson told Winfrey she hasn't spoken to him since the incident because she believes Timberlake didn't publicly take his share of the blame.
