September 30, 2006 (Press Release) --
This fall at the multiplex she's the girl you really can't avoid -- and why would you want to? The gorgeous 34-year-old actress from Brisbane, Australia, got her start in 1992 when she was cast in the London version of "The Real World." She progressed to being the lawyer who has the hots for and kisses Bridget Jones in "Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason." These days she's kissing guys such as Billy Bob Thornton and Jon Heder in "School for Scoundrels," opening Friday, and Zack Braff in "The Last Kiss."
Q. How was your "Bridget Jones" screen kiss?
A. It was a lot of fun. Renee Zellweger and I are girls, so we used just the perfect mints before the kiss. Girls care about those things. Ever since then I've played straight in movies. But I tried it. Just once.
Q. Tell us about "School for Scoundrels."
A. I have this neighbor who is this loser guy. He goes to Billy Bob Thornton to be taught how to lose his loser self and become an a-hole. But along the way, Billy Bob decides he wants the girl [and] there is the dilemma. I shouldn't tell you how it ends, but I will say that there is a heart shocking device involved.
Q. What kind of films do you want to do?
A. I love doing movies that speak to my generation. I want to talk about love, life, the death of a parent, infidelity, having a baby. Of course, I don't have any issues with getting older. But ask me that one again when I'm 40 and 50 and 60.
Q. Is it true that you have your pilot's license?
A. Is that dangerous? Do the studios go nuts? I can't think about that because I love it up in the air. There is an incredible freedom. And you really do use your mind in a different way when you're at the controls of a plane.
Q. So you can fly in to see your hu[actor Gabriel Macht] ...
A. We make it work by getting a lot of frequent flier miles. I'm not going without kissing the man I love for more than two weeks.
