The Queens Economic Development Corporation will announce the 1st annual Queens Business Plan Competition on October 10th at Queens Borough Hall at 1PM.

Queens, NY, October 3, 2006 — The Queens Economic Development Corporation will announce the 1st annual Queens Business Plan Competition on October 10th at Queens Borough Hall at 1PM. In partnership with Queens Public Library and sponsored by the Citigroup Foundation the Queens Business Plan Competition gives nine Queens-based entrepreneurs an opportunity to receive cash prizes totaling $28,750. The first place winner of Queens Business Plan Competition will receive $15,000, with two runners-up each receiving $5,000. The Queens Business Plan Competition gives entrepreneurs the opportunity to strengthen their business knowledge, learn about business trends and gain insights about starting or growing a business, as well as an introduction to the vast resources at the Queens Library.
The competition is open to entrepreneurs starting a new business. All entrants will receive instruction on writing a business plan, financing and budgeting their business, marketing and how to use research tools at the Queens Library. The Queens Economic Development Corporation QEDC is a one-stop resource center for business and the federally designated agency for economic development in the county, QEDC provides a spectrum of services to existing businesses, entrepreneurs and neighborhood commercial centers-to expand, create or attract business-through the delivery of hands-on technical, informational or neighborhood development assistance. Its Business Services Division provides new and existing business owners with a network of services, training, information and resources for financing and investment. The program's centerpiece is the Entrepreneur Assistance Program, a 10-week comprehensive course on developing a business.
Citigroup Foundation is Queens Economic Development’s corporate sponsor of the Queens Business Plan Competition. The Citigroup Foundation focuses its grants primarily in three areas: financial education, educating the next generation, and building communities and entrepreneurs.
