Joe Louis, a former professional boxer from Chicago, moved to Atlanta, Georgia with a fighting spirit and the goal of changing the vicious cycle of African American teenage crime. In March 2000, Mr. Louis founded Stepping Out for Christ Ministries as the sponsor for his job training program. His goal was to develop a community awareness of the importance of job skills training as a way to stop the cycle. In 2005, he and L.A. Holloway, a partner of ICE, a financial services firm, created an FDIC bank card for juvenile offenders as young as 14 years old. Not only is the program an education, but it saves an estimated $75-100 each month in check cashing fees.
