October 12, 2006 (Press Release) --
Barnes and Noble -- Maria Liberati will be signing copies of her book The Basic Art of Italian Cooking at the Barnes and Noble of Marlton, NJ October 23 at 2 pm and Barnes and Noble of Montgomeryville, PA October 28 at 1 pm. The fashion model turned food connoisseur drew from her experiences spent on her grandparent’s vineyard in Italy as well as her own experiences in the elegant world of modeling to create a cookbook that is useful for experienced and inexperienced cooks.
The Philadelphia native has also been influenced from her childhood when she traveled with her grandfather to the Italian market in south Philadelphia to buy vegetables. The combination of her experiences in modeling and her rich Italian heritage has given Maria a knowledge and joy of cooking that she hopes to share with her readers: “cooking, preparing and eating food together is not a chore, but a joy”.
Along with the numerous recipes that Maria has learned throughout her life, the book is also peppered with stories and memoirs that the author experienced throughout her travels in Italy. These stories, in addition to the recipes give a real glimpse of Italian living.
To Maria, Italian cooking is not about overly complex meals, but simple meals that are delicious, elegant, and unforgettable; meals that anyone –experienced or not— can create and enjoy. The Basic Art of Italian Cooking has recipes for all aspects of a meal from appetizers to desert and everything in between, including beverages like the Caffe All’arancia. However, Maria looks at the dining experience as more than just food. A meal without a proper presentation “would be like [painting] a work of art on a piece of cardboard instead of a canvas”. When serving meals the atmosphere and presentation can be just as important to the food.
At the heart of the book is a true love of cooking and a desire to share her cooking with the people she loves. In addition to her new book; Maria is working on three other books, expanding her website www.marialiberati.com, and getting a television show started. With all of her busy work Maria always finds time to do what is most important to her, a quality that she tries to pass along to her readers. “No matter how busy I am, I always make a point to find time to sit down with family and friends and enjoy a good meal because that is what keeps me going”. Maria will be signing copies of her new book at the Barnes and Noble on 200 West Route 70 in Marlton NJ, and the Barnes and Noble on 1271 Knapp Road in Montgomeryville PA.
