October 13, 2006 (Press Release) --
Throws Like a Girl, a local Philadelphia band with a strong following across the mid-Atlantic region, will open an all ages show for the Lostpropets on Thursday October 19 at 7pm at the Trocadero Theater in Philadelphia, PA. As part of the US leg of their 2006 international tour supporting their new album Liberation Transmission, Lostprophets performs in Philadelphia at the Trocadero Theater for one night only.
Throws Like a Girl’s live performances are a must-see, with a sound reminiscent of early Goo Goo Dolls and Jimmy Eat World. They are regulars at local Philly clubs the Grape Street Pub and World Café Live, and have played up and down the East Coast for much of 2006. The group lists influences including the Cure, Rush, the Get Up Kids, the Police and the Deftones. Members are Dave Warton – Vocals, Lead Guitar, Dan Cooper – Bass, and Rob Cain – Drums, Keyboards. This will be their second 2006 performance at the Trocadero. “We can’t wait to get up there and rock for what is sure to be a great crowd,” says frontman Dave Warton, “playing original music for people who appreciate it is what we are all about.”
Dubbed “the Welsh Dragons,” Lostprophets is a 5 member rock band formed in 1997. Members are Ian Watkins - Vocals, Lee Gaze - Guitars, Stuart Richardson - Bass, Mike Lewis - Guitar, and Jamie Oliver – Decks. They got their start playing local gigs in and around the UK, making several demos which eventually led into a record deal. Since then have released Start Something (2004) and most recently Liberation Transmission (2006). Lostprophets have enjoyed success on both sides of the Atlantic and are now managed by the same company who look after Metallica in the US. They have supported bands including Linkin Park and Run DMC on tour.
The Lostprophets are known for their antiestablishment songs, hence the name of their most recent album Liberation Transmission. The new album is full of radio-friendly, surefire hits that draw on great vocal performance and overall musicianship. The band is draws comparisons to Faith No More, Franz Ferdinand and Mando Diao. This will be the Lostprophets’ last Philadelphia show before continuing on to tour the East Coast and in Chicago, heading back to their native U.K. in November.
The Trocadero Theater hosts many of Philadelphia's alternative concerts and events. Listed in the historic register, it is one of the only 19th century Victorian theatres still in operation in the United States. The Trocadero is now best known for its rock, punk, ska, goth and metal shows.
