Ms. Senior DC Competes for Ms. Senior America Pageant
After 42 years as an educator in the District of Columbia Public Schools System, Ann Thomas is on her way to Las Vegas to teach lessons on style, grace, and wisdom as she competes in the Miss Senior America Pageant.
The pageant is to be held at the Imperial Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada on November 6th through the 12th. After being judged on a personal interview, philosophy of life, talent and evening gown, the winner will go on to serve the nation as Miss Senior America 2006.
The wife of Attorney Harold L. Thomas and mother of two was crowned Miss Senior DC in the local pageant held at the University of the District of Columbia this past June. The audience was stunned by the recent retirees poise and elegance.
“I heard about the local pageant from a church member and my family persuaded me to enter. I thought it was a great opportunity for women over the age of 60 to display the art of aging with style. I wanted to bring more exposure to the pageant and I was excited about participating. Since then, I’ve learned what an honor it is to serve as Miss Senior DC. I have a marvelous court and I am proud of all we have accomplished so far. My joy can only be exceeded by winning the title of Miss Senior America 2006 and my intent is to do just that,” Thomas said, while donning her genuine, but pageant winning smile.
Ann has over 300 sponsors, more than 50 of whom will actually be accompanying her on the trip to Las Vegas. In addition to an overwhelming outpouring of support from friends, family members and local businesses, Mrs. Thomas has received recognition from local city officials, such as Ward One Councilmember, Jim Graham, At-Large Councilmember, David Catania, and current Ward Four Councilmember and Democratic Nominee and frontrunner for November’s Mayoral election, Adrian Fenty.
“I have always told my children to remember that when they leave home, they are not only representing themselves, but the entire family and all who played a role in rearing them. I carry that same responsibility. I take my current position and the upcoming pageant very seriously. I’m having a lot of fun, but its hard work! With continued faith, encouragement and diligence, I hope to represent my hometown extremely well. I am proud to live in Washington, DC. I love the place and the people. These past few months as Miss Senior DC have been like a storybook for me. I hope that in Las Vegas, the Miss Senior America Pageant 2006 will have a fairytale ending for all the residents of this great city. I want to play a part in bringing positive attention to seniors and to Washington DC.”
