October 16, 2006 (Press Release) --
Clear the way. It is hard to get organised if your house is full to bursting and you can’t find anything. Take a roll of bin bags and have a good clear out. Divide your unwanted goods into those to give away, things to put in the bin, and items you could sell. Set up a box to pop unwanted items in, and make a point of taking it to a charity shop every month to ensure that the mess doesn’t build up again.
Staying on top. Once you have cleared up, here’s how to stay organised. Try to deal with letters, bills and notes homes from school as soon as you get them. Always have chequebook, envelops and stamps to hand so you can pay bills when you have an odd moment. Write dates for events in your diary or calendar as soon as you receive notification. Fill in birthdays on the calendar too, and have a selection of cards for when you don’t have time to get to the shop.
Delegation and family involvement. You need support from the rest of the family too. Use incentives such as stickers to reward younger kids for helping clear the table and keeping their room tidy. You can encourage older kids to help with cooking – even if it’s just beans on toast that saves you time once a week. Older children may like to earn points towards a trip to the cinema in return for helping out with chores. And impress on your children that they need to fill in their events on the calendar too – otherwise you won’t available to take them or collect them!
I f you need more space to write everything in your calendar, make sure you get an Organised Mum Weekly Planner. Brand New for this year, the Weekly Planner is a wall calendar with a difference. It has space for you to jot down lists, which you can then tear off when you need. It comes with 288 stickers to highlight everyone’s activities, and has a practical pocket for those pieces of paper you just mustn’t lose. The Weekly Planner costs £9.99 from www.organisedmum.co.uk or call 0845 644 7507

The Company was started by Sarah Sadler, a mum to two young girls who just found it impossible to organise her days. The products are in the following stores, plus many more local outlets:
• John Lewis 33 shops nationwide
• Calendar Club 200 stores nationwide
• Great Little Trading – Weekly Planner
• Calendar Club online
