TagWorld Exclusive Interview – Thrice
By: Patricia Dao
Patricia: Are you guys excited to be here at Bamboozle today?
Dustin: Yeah, it’s gonna be fun. I’m excited that it’s outside. I like outside shows when they’re not super hot.
Pattricia: And are there any acts that you guys are excited to see?
Ted: Um, I think we’re all really stoked to see Brand New. Good friends of ours, good band.
Pattricia: Are you guys in the middle of a tour now or is this just a one stop for you?
Dustin: We’re at the end of a very small tour. We just did like a quick kind of southwest run and then we’re in the middle of writing and recording our next record.
Pattricia: Let’s jump into the “Illusion of Safety”. I know that was one of your first albums that really made the splash, that was really like post hardcore metal and now you guys are venturing off into a lot of different things. Can you explain what you’re going to do in the future?
Dustin: Uh, this next project is a lot of fun. We’re kind of in the middle of making. But it’s gonna be four discs. And they’re each themed to one of the four elements- earth, air, water, fire. Um, so they’re pushing into different directions in each way. Instead of us always pulling like a bunch of stuff into a small package. It’s giving a little more space. Um and so each thing is kind of moving sonically in those directions. Like fire is the heaviest one. Earth is real stripped down and acoustic stuff. So, it’s a lot of fun and real excited about it.
Pattricia: That’s really cool. And so when is that gonna come out?
Dustin: Hopefully Mayish.
Pattricia: And then “Vheissu” did really well as well I mean is the style gonna be a lot different from that album?
Dustin: I think in general it’s moving in the direction that we have been moving. If that makes any sense? It’s more like “Vheissu” than “The Artist in the Ambulance”.
Pattricia: Cool and any tours for you that are coming up?
Ted: Not really. We’re just kind of holding off for the next few months. Trying to get it all done, yeah.
