November 1, 2006 (Press Release) --
Edge Velocity Corporation, innovators in high bandwidth mobile communications infrastructure, today announced its formation to address deficiencies in high end mobile communications, and welcomed respected Homeland Defense and FDNY official Vincent Doherty to its Advisory Board. Edge Velocity will introduce advanced communications solutions that surpass current third-generation wireless infrastructure offerings, and support unprecedented mobile to mobile converged content and application access over large geographic areas. Its solutions are designed to meet the urgent requirements of first responders, governmental agencies and industries where environmental conditions present severe challenges, such as mining and transportation, and have been successfully deployed at secure utility industry and public safety facilities.
“First responders and governmental authorities are forced to assess and react to situations based largely on assumptions and experience, because real time video, data and interagency voice communications aren’t available among responders on the move. Edge Velocity is achieving new communications benchmarks, and promises to provide first responders, security teams and relevant agencies with unprecedented security, mobility and deployment agility,” notes Vincent Doherty, Director for Program Outreach, Center for Homeland Defense and Security at the Naval Postgraduate School. Doherty is also Co-Chair of the Science and Technology Committee, Interagency Board (IAB) for Equipment Standardization and Interoperability, an emergency responder advocacy group that partners with federal counterparts to advocate for standardization and interoperability within the response community. He joins Edge Velocity as an Advisory Board member, and was previously Executive Officer of Hazardous Materials Operations, Special Operations Command for the Fire Department of New York City (FDNY).
Frank Knox, Edge Velocity’s Co-Founder and CTO notes: “We’ve designed innovative technologies that give much of today’s in-service infrastructure new abilities to enable consistent, real-time transfer of high-bandwidth data among highly mobile and/or stationary points of communication, terrestrially and sub-terrestrially.”
Edge Velocity will imminently introduce systems enabling concurrent, 2-way, real-time video conferencing, data sharing and application access between mobile vehicles and individuals over large geographic areas. Its systems intelligently follow users and determine hand-offs to sustain continuous connectivity as users move in and out of range.
Its solutions are viewed as far ahead of competitors, allowing for example two vehicles traveling at 115 mph to maintain transfer rates of 50+ Mbps with minimal millisecond delays.
