St. Rose-Rein Says Child Predators Target Single Mothers

Columbia, MD/November 2, 2006 – Noted child advocate, Carla St. Rose-Rein, author of LAND OF BROKEN TOYS, issued a warning list for parents of top signs that an adult predator might be targeting a child. St. Rose-Rein says that in the United States, child predators often integrate themselves with single mothers as a way to get close to children. She says that this often happens more in middle class families than would be expected.
The top warning signs that St. Rose-Rein wants single parents to be aware of and that should cause alarm when they are dating are:
1. The need to meet & interact with children
2. Adults who refer to child as a "friend"

She points out that a troubling statistic with child abuse is that often a single mother will not believe her child when they report the abuse for fear of losing the person that they are dating.
