November 5th, 2006. Houston, Texas. Christmas favorites will fill the air this holiday season as the Lone Star Symphonic Band performs two Christmas Concerts, titled “Simply Christmas.” Both concerts will be held on December 10th, 2006 at Houston Community College – Town and Country Campus, Performing Arts Center, Theater #1. The College is located at 1060 West Sam Houston Parkway North at I-10 West.
A matinee, to begin at 3:00 pm, has tickets priced at $5 each. The evening concert, to begin at 7:00 pm, has tickets for sale at $10 for adults, and $5 for children 12 and under. Tickets can be pre-purchased by calling 281-460-4517, and can be mailed out or held at will call. Tickets can also be purchased at the door.
A Dixieland Band, Trombone Choir, Flute Choir, and a vocal ensemble are all slated to perform either before or during the concert. Pieces to be performed by the Lone Star Symphonic Band include Sleigh Ride, O Holy Night, Salvation is Created, Christmas Festival, among other perennial favorites.
The Lone Star Symphonic Band is an adult semi-professional wind ensemble dedicated to bringing performances of artistic merit to the Houston area community. Founded in 1993 as the West Houston Concert Band, the band is comprised of musicians from all walks of life and instills the value that music is a life-long event, continuing well beyond high school and college, and awards the Jon K. Fisher Memorial Scholarship to students majoring in Music. In the summer of 2005, the Band entered into a joint venture with Houston Community College – Town and Country Campus, offering the band as a course for credit to HCC students interested in performing with an ensemble. The Band is under the direction of Dr. Clancy Weeks.
