November 8, 2006 (Press Release) --
Columbia, SC: Columbia writer Sam Morton has reached an agreement with IP Book Marso, a large publishing house in Belgrade for the rights to print his novel, Disavowed, in Serbia. A representative of the publisher approached Morton at the Printer’s Row Book Fair in Chicago in June.
“There were more than 100 authors at Printer’s Row, people like Steve Berry and John Updike. I’m blown away that IP Book Marso chose my novel as one it wants to translate. To say that I’m gratified would be an understatement,” Morton said.
Disavowed is a police thriller whose protagonist, a down-on-his-luck ex-cop takes on a powerful white supremacist organization in order to gain redemption. It is set in the Southern states of South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas. “My publishing company had me work with an editor from Washington state, and I even had to explain to her what a pig-pickin’ is,” Morton said, “so I’m curious to see how some of the ‘Southernisms’ translate.”
“I met Sam at Printers Row and got a copy of his novel. I read it, as did our editor, and we think it is a great book for our publishing house and our market,” said Sanja Djurdjevic, buyer for IP Book Marso. “We hope he can attend the Belgrade Book Fair next October,” she said.
Disavowed is published in the U.S. by Echelon Press of Laurel Creek, Maryland. Currently it has a five-star rating on both Amazon.com and BarnesandNoble.com. Morton has also published Ramblings, a collection of short stories, and he is co-author of four anthologies of short stories and poetry. He is the winner of the 2000 Sumter County Arts Council fiction writing contest and a 2006 horror short story writing award sponsored by Silver Moon magazine. Disavowed is his first novel.
