November 9, 2006 (Press Release) --
SCOTTSDALE, ARIZONA November 9, 2006 – Halfway between Calgary and Edmonton, in the western plains province of Alberta, Canada, an 80s music fanatic turns out a weekly Internet radio broadcast that brings news of her favorite bands to the rest of the world.
Going only by the initial “J,” she spends her week assembling gossip, tour schedule dates, and arranging interviews with some of the biggest recording artists of her generation.
“Yes, they’re called ‘hair bands’,” she says with a smile. “It was the era of the big hair groups like Poison, Cinderella, Skid Row, and Warrant. I grew up with posters of these bands on my bedroom walls and I figured there were a lot more people out there like me.”
Her guess proved correct. Her show has an audience of thousands and it’s growing. The new medium of Podcasting makes it all possible.
A Podcast is a pre-recorded audio program that listeners can enjoy from a website or on a portable media device like an iPod. A Podcast differs from simply audio-on-the-web because it allows users to subscribe to a single program or an assortment of programs and have the sound files delivered automatically to its audience as soon as they become available. Listeners can then enjoy the broadcast at their leisure. It’s like TiVo, time-shifting for audio, but unlike TiVo you can take the program with you. Many users report Podcasts have replaced drive-time radio in their cars.
“It’s really amazing,” says J, “I’m just a married mom of two out in the middle of nowhere, but I get fan mail from all over the world. Some people email me to suggest show topics or ask me to interview a specific band member. It makes me happy to know that I’m filling a need that no one else does.”
J’s Podcast is named Shining Star Radio. It can be found at www.shiningstarradio.com.
Shining Star Radio is a production of Lynx Broadcasting Corporation of Scottsdale Arizona. For further information, contact Mark Crist at 480-477-5815
