November 11, 2006 (Press Release) --
0ne: Their three other collaborations have resulted in some fine performances and an Oscar nomination for each of them, so Anthony Hopkins and his Remains of the Day director, James Ivory, are going to try again. The duo is reuniting for The City of Your Final Destination, an adaptation of Peter Cameron's novel about an Iranian student who goes to Argentina to get permission to write about a dead author from the author's family. Family drama ensues, of course. Hopkins, who also starred in Ivory's Howard's End and Surviving Picasso, will play the late author's brother and will be joined by Oscar nominee Laura Linney as the author's widow. It begins filming this month in the States and Argentina.
Two: It's been in development hell for more than a decade and has, at various points, included Julia Roberts and Sandra Bullock in its cast. But the big-screen makeover of Clare Boothe Luce's play-turned-movie The Women is finally set to start filming in March, with a cast that now includes Meg Ryan, Lisa Kudrow, Candice Bergen and Anne Hathaway. Bergen's Emmy-winning Murphy Brown producer, Diane English, will make her movie directorial debut on the flick, which revolves around a group of catty New York women who are obsessed with gossiping about one of their friends, who files for divorce after finding out her hubby is cheating with a perfume salesgirl. Director George Cukor's 1939 original version starred Norma Shearer as the put-upon wife and scene stealer Joan Crawford as the man-stealin' shop girl.
