PRESS RELEASE: ISLAND RAPPER TAKES THE MIC AT BET HIP HOP MUSIC AWARDS
Thursday, November 16, 2006 (Atlanta, GA) – Staten Island receives mega attention in the world of Hip Hop, as one of it’s locals presents an award – and sneaks in a few lines of thought – during the 1st Annual BET Hip Hop Awards filmed on Sunday night at Fox Theater in Atlanta. The highly anticipated ceremony aired Wednesday night.
Curtis Mills, grand prize winner of BET’s “I Am Hip Hop” trivia contest, was given the opportunity to present the Alltel Wireless People’s Choice Award at the awards event. Curtis (a/k/a Mag Briggs) surprised the audience when he went off queue to steal ten seconds of fame on the microphone. Curtis stated, “I had to turn this opportunity into something much larger…this was the best place and time for me to put myself [and talent] out there.”
The audience seemed to respond very well to Curtis’ outbreak in song, which Curtis said helped him to know he did the right thing. He says his rhyme at the event is a prelude to his full-length single, which is scheduled for release today.
