November 15, 2006 (Press Release) --
Minneapolis, Minnesota – November 15, 2006- The Children’s Fund of Ethiopia (CFE) is undertaking charitable activities directly and by sponsoring nonprofit organizations in Ethiopia or the United States. We have recently sponsored the Children’s Heart Fund of Ethiopia (CHFE) with a fundraising goal to raise $500,000 to complete the construction of the first Children Cardiac Center in Ethiopia.
The CHFE has already secured one million dollars (70% of the estimated budget) of its construction funds through partnerships, grants and personal contributions; all garnered monies have been directed toward the structure. Upon the completion of the facility, Chain of Hope (UK) has pledged to donate medical equipment valued at $10.98 million (96 million birr). This donation is conditional on the readiness of the facility. The success of this fundraising campaign will be instrumental in meeting the deadline.
“We absolutely love Children Fund of Ethiopia’s proactive effort to support this honorable and critical cause that will impact the lives of our children” said Dr. Belay Abegaz, Ethiopian Pediatric Cardiologist and CHFE board Chairperson.
The Children’s Fund of Ethiopia has, so far, collected pledges and donations amounting to $91,968 of which $54,249 came from the efforts of the Minnesota operations and $37,719 from the Atlanta, Georgia subcommittee. Further benefit activities are planned in the Twin Cities and various U.S. cities to reach its final goal and objectives. President of CFE, Mr. Tefera B. Kassa said, “Ethiopians in Minnesota have come through and opened their hearts and pockets. They have exceeded our expectations but we have got a long way to go and we will continue to organize events in the coming weeks. We are also forming supporting committees in additional states to further our fundraising endeavors.” Mr. Tefera was also enthused that Ethiopians in Atlanta, Georgia who joined this initiative just a few weeks ago have shown tremendous success. Along with friends and supporters in the Washington/Maryland areas and Colorado, they are exerting similar efforts toward this benefit campaign.
Pledge forms are provided on CFE’s website and we encourage and hope all Ethiopians and friends of Ethiopians in the U.S. and around the world to join this effort to ensure our children’s health. Please visit www.cfethiopia.org to pay online or obtain mailing information.
