November 20, 2006 (Press Release) --
DETROIT, Michigan, November 20th
Need4Sheed (http://www.Need4Sheed.com) was once a personal weblog of a woman who loved her Detroit Pistons and especially, Rasheed Wallace. When I say personal, I mean it was like a diary. She ranted about the horrible calls that the refs made. She complained about the strict NBA rules. She shared her experiences from each game that she attended. Now, Need4Sheed.com has skyrocketed in popularity. Natalie Sitto first gained recognition for her work when she was interviewed in the Detroit Free Press. Later, her website was mentioned on a very popular sports talk show on ESPN, Cold Pizza. She was even invited to another ESPN show, Quite Frankly with Stephan A. Smith to watch Rasheed Wallace.
So what exactly is Need4Sheed? What does it mean? Natalie’s favorite player is Rasheed Wallace. Rasheed Wallace’s world renowned nick name is “Sheed”. Natalie has dedicated her time into finding out the information that no one else knows, like Rasheed Wallace’s favorite movie. She writes down all of Sheed’s pregame rituals and habits. She finds videos of Sheed doing crazy things that we never thought he would do in front of a camera. Basically, Natalie puts her perspective of a true NBA fan onto her website for millions of other fans to see.
As you probably know, Rasheed Wallace is not afraid to show his true character. Sheed is a rather flamboyant and lively character on the basketball court. He loves to shows his emotions during the game. This year, NBA commissioner, David Stern, has enforced a strict policy regarding “showing emotions during a game”. If a player chooses to show his emotions during a game, whether it is yelling at a referee for calling a questionable call, or yelling loudly after being fouled, the rules enforce that a technical foul is issued. Rasheed Wallace is the king of technical fouls and has earned a reputation for earning the most technical fouls in one season. Rasheed even calls NBA’s new rule, “the Rasheed Wallace rule”.
Natalie Sitto started the “Save Sheed” petition, where she kindly asks David Stern to lighten up on the new rule. She, as well as every other Pistons fan, knows that Rasheed Wallace was a direct target of this new rule. Natalie advertises her petition all over her website and so far it’s working. Need4Sheed.com was mentioned on the Pistons.com, the official website of the Detroit Pistons. As of today, the “Save Sheed” petition has over 2,100 signatures.
As you can see, it is almost mind boggling how one person’s opinion can motivate and change others. In Natalie’s case, she is force in the basketball blogging world. Natalie’s purpose of the website is not to make money or gain critical acclaim, it is still her own journal; she still posts her own opinions. If Natalie’s petition succeeds, you can see how easy it is for one person to have such a big effect on a big corporation, like the NBA. I would like to thank Natalie Sitto for being the official spokesperson of the fans of the
