November 24, 2006 (Press Release) --
New York, NY – November 23, 2006 – Goldberger Doll Manufacturing Company Inc., a leading manufacturer of children’s dolls for 90 years and the maker of the popular Zip-ity Do Dolly, announced today utter outrage at the erroneous and defamatory claims issued by W.A.T.C.H. The Zip-ity Do Dolly, which has been a top retail seller for over three years, has been tested and more than doubles the federally mandated regulations.
Jeffrey Holtzman, President and CEO of Goldberger Doll Company said today, "The Zip-ity Do Dolly is fully tested and certified safe by independent accredited laboratories, as are all Goldberger dolls and products. The information published by W.A.T.C.H. is completely wrong, defamatory and misleading to consumers.
The award-winning Zip-ity Do Dolly is designed to teach young children how to dress by fostering skills such as snapping, buttoning and tying shoelaces, all components of early childhood development. Zip-ity Do Dolly is a 'Basic Training' doll, a brand Goldberger has created specifically to present fun ways to teach young children the basics!
The implication by W.A.T.C.H that the button on the doll is "detachable" and its claim that it therefore "could be ingested" are erroneous. The Federal guidelines call for buttons to withstand the force of 15 lbs of applied pressure before detaching. The results of Zip-ity Do Dolly’s button came in at 34 lbs of pressure, which is more than double the stringent regulations set by government standards.
Mr. Holtzman continued, "The organization W.A.T.C.H., founded by a personal injury lawyer, is a front for plaintiffs’ lawyers."
Zip-ity Do dolls have been certified many times by independent testing laboratories. These certifications include specific mechanical tests for the button and plush ball mentioned in the W.A.T.C.H report. Goldberger's Zip-ity Do Dolly meets or exceeds the U.S. Government standards for small parts (16cfr 1501, et.seq) as incorporated in ASTM f963-03 standard consumer safety specification for toy safety, as do all of their dolls with small or working parts.
