November 27, 2006 (Press Release) --
Erwin, TN. Nov. 27th, 2005. The "Cherokee Mountain Boys", a bluegrass band of regional reputation has just released their first video recording. Produced by Clinchfield Mountain Volunteer Video, the DVD consists of eighteen bluegrass favorites selected from a live performance during this year's National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, TN.
The "Cherokee Mountain Boys" use traditional instrumentation: Warren Shelton on Guitar and vocals, Mikde Laws on banjo and vocals, Bobby Green on Guitar and vocals, Frank Rodgers on fiddle and mandolin and Frank Culler on doghouse bass.
One non-traditional aspect of the band is Frank Rodgers's five-string fiddle. "I had it built for my by J. W. Green of White Pine." said Rodgers, "He added a "C" string to extend my lower range.
The Members have appeared at most of the local bluegrass spots, and many regional places in VA., NC., and TN. The group has over a hundred years of combined picking experience. "I've played the Picking Porch in Bristol, but that was some years ago" says Warren, the group's organizer.
Dance fans like the bans's rhythm, and the video shows fans dancing despiet the lack of a dance floor at the Cranberry Thistle.
