December 5, 2006 (Press Release) --
The popularity of fashion design programs like, Project Runway make the dream of becoming a renowned fashion designer seem more attainable. A former fashion model, Dean Dyer, plans to give local designers the start they need to launch their dreams of a career in fashion at his new design studio, Pattern Studio A. Dyer will also teach a sewing course at the Callanwolde Arts Center for eight weeks on Tuesdays from January 16 – March 6, 2007.
Pattern Studio A is a veritable “one stop shop” offering services that range from helping designers produce a new fashion line to costume making, pattern making, presentation sample making, plus sizes, and special needs clothing as well as interior design and decorating. Several local designers are attracted to Pattern Studio A’s offer to develop their master basic pattern free of charge.
Pattern Studio A evolved from Dyer’s thirty plus years of experience in the fashion industry. It all began when he learned to sew in 1972 while making clothing for his mother during her weight loss transition. He subsequently went on to study fashion design at the Sheridan Vocational Fashion Design School in Hollywood, Florida where he studied under Vivian Dempsey, a 1965 Parson Graduate.
“After graduating from Sheridan in 1991, my mother and I opened a small store in Palm Beach, Florida called Daring Designs. It was my launch into the commercial manufacturing industry. My mother managed the retail division of the company, while I continued to network and learn the manufacturing end of fashion design,” Dyer explained.
After a stint in Paris, Dyer returned to the U.S. and relocated the company to his native Portland, Oregon. In 1998, he returned to Atlanta and reinitiated Daring Designs gaining the trust and clientele of the local modeling market.
Beginning in January, Dyer will teach the “Sewing Projects” class at Callanwolde. In a fun and relaxing environment students will learn the basics of sewing and go as far as they can to hone their craft and problem solving skills.
Callanwolde is located at 980 Briarcliff Road, N.E.,Atlanta, Georgia 30306,(404) 872-5338. You may register online at for www.callanwolde.org. Classes will take place on Tuesdays, January 16 – March 6, 2007, 7:00 – 9:00pm. $135 members/ $145 non-members.
