FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) December 13, 2006 --
West Ashley High School Athletic Director Richard Luden is proud to introduce the inaugural Sandlapper Track & Field Classic as the Southeast’s new season opening standard-bearer for event excellence and student athlete accommodations. The new Sandlapper Classic will build upon the success of its predecessor, the popular Wildcat Relays, while instituting the classic “championship” track & field format, complete with electronic timing and published “elite” ranking results for the athletes. Formal invitations have gone out to every boys’ and girls’ high school track team in South Carolina and many more across Georgia and North Carolina. Coach Luden is expecting to draw 20 to 50 schools to the exciting new meet, but in a sport where it’s not uncommon for hundreds of schools to attend a single event, Luden is prepared for many more. With all accommodations, amenities, and promotional efforts now being managed by the Sandlapper Real Estate Group—which is owned by former College World Series standout Gettys Glaze who spent 4 years as a Citadel Bulldog and 3 years as a pro in the Boston Red Sox system—student athletes, coaches and the media alike can expect an unprecedented experience with professional attention to every detail. Coach Luden, who is also the head coach of the West Ashley boys’ team and a former South Carolina High School Coach of the Year, feels the Sandlapper Classic has all the markings of an event that should achieve national popularity in a few short years. With the well-appointed Wildcat Stadium as the host site, the meet will boast one of the finest nine-lane facilities in the Southeast. And with Charleston currently lacking a nationally recognized high school or youth sporting event—despite it’s tremendous popularity as a destination city—Glaze is confident that the partnership between Sandlapper and West Ashley High School will do wonders for the sport of Track & Field (the largest of all co-ed sports), and even more for the student athletes.
