December 17, 2006 (Press Release) --
Nashville, TN-December 13, 2006- “The Invisible America” from ParkSide Productions, produced by Nashville based producers Penney Carlton, Cindy Montano, and Alicia Parker will air on News Channel 5 WTVF on Saturday, December 30th from 5-6 PM with additional airings on Channel 5+ during the holiday season.
“The Invisible America” was conceived late in the summer of 2006 when the producers from ParkSide Productions met two homeless individuals during the filming of a pilot television series “Indieville” that is currently being pitched nationally. That chance encounter led the producers to ask themselves what could they do to help. The answer came quickly and within a couple of weeks the producers were taking a camera into places most people in Nashville don’t even know exist. From the first day they were shocked to meet individuals from a range of socio-economic backgrounds including families with children, women, college-educated individuals, working homeless, veterans, and those who are lost in mental or physical illness. “The Invisible America” chronicles the lives of people who have fallen to the harsh statistics of homelessness but are not defined by them. “The Invisible America” breaks stereotypes from the opening scene.
With no funding for the project, the producers pushed forward regardless and assembled a talented team who were willing to give their time to allow others to tell their stories. Everyone who worked on the project agreed to take pay only if funding becomes available. On zero budget what seemed impossible became a reality because so many people in the Nashville community stepped up to make it happen.
From a bus bench just off Music Row to concrete steps, from the alleys to the interstate under-passes, from shelters to the hidden homeless camps “The Invisible America” is their story, in their own words. They share their hopes and dreams; they laugh, cry, and have memories that make them smile and comfort them during the blackness of nights.
It’s not what you see …It’s what you don’t see.
“Bravo, Bravo, Bravo. What a powerful piece of work.” -Sam Walker Adams
“Outstanding and Powerful! I can’t think of any another adjectives that could sum it up more appropriately.” –Bruce Newport / Executive Director / Safe Haven
