December 17, 2006 (Press Release) --
With the recent string of negative news stories about corruption and dishonesty at the campuses of the Maricopa Community College District, one would believe that administrators would have a firm grasp on their managers. Unfortunately at Estrella Mountain Community College, intolerance of the disabled is the finding of one employee. According to this insider, managerial behavior allows for open and illegal discrimination.
When I received approval to telecommute from my two immediate supervisors when pesticides are sprayed on campus, Dawn said. I thought: finally management is responding appropriately to an emergency. That management would comply with federal law and I could continue to work and be an active member of society. No matter that I have a disability. What I found out last Thursday is that there was no intention of safeguarding my life or complying with federal law. Management was buying time to rebuke me. Take my accommodation away and place my life at risk.
The employee fears for her life. The workplace environment changed from assisting her in her bid for continued employment to forcing her into an expensive tax payer paid second opinion with doctors who are not specialists in the field of multiple chemical sensitivities and blaming her for managerial incompetence.
Dawn Mullan is a positive person. Ms. Mullan supports individuals, non-profits, educational and community activities around the the Phoenix Metro area with her talents.
Ms. Mullan has worked for Estrella Mountain Community College in various capacities from OYO Employee, Student/Temporary Secretary, Laboratory Assistant, and Tutor for several different departments including the Residential Faculty Offices, Computing & Communications, Information Resources, Tech Prep, Administration, Project Jefferson, and Laboratory Prep beginning in 1993.
Ms. Mullan currently works as a Full-Time Employee in Facilities Management as the Administrative Secretary and has done so without a negative evaluation for over a decade.
