December 19, 2006 (Press Release) --
Networking equipment maker Cisco Systems introduced Monday two new products of its iphone that allows users to make free or low-cost Internet phone calls using its Skype Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) service.
However, Apple Computer has branded many of its products with the signature small "i" prefix, such as its iBook and iPod, but its coming mobile phone product is widely expected in weeks to have similar name though not "iphone."
Cisco has owned the trademark on iPhone name since 2000, in the category of "computer hardware and software for providing integrated telephone communication with computerized global information networks."
"I can look up pizza restaurants in my zip code, which is already stored on my phone," said Dennis Vogel, senior product marketing manager at Cisco, "The feature pulls up the directory assistance, address and phone number, and displays it on the phone."
