December 19, 2006 (Press Release) --
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BIRMINGHAM BAND AT LARGEST CANADIAN MUSLIM EVENT
(Birmingham, UK - 12/19/06) –
The largest Muslim convention in Canada, the 5th Reviving the Islamic Spirit Convention (RIS) will be held at Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Toronto, Canada on Dec 22-24, 2006. This program hopes to empower the youth across North America and inspire a true revival of the ethical virtues of Islam of piety, tolerance, acceptance of diversity, generosity and hospitality. RIS showcases Islamic leadership from across the globe sharing a common platform before the widest cross section of the Canadian Muslim community.
“By engaging in this discussion we are trying to breathe the light of faith into public discourse rather than read political events into an interpretation of sacred texts, says Fouzan Khan, organizer of the RIS. “With this dialogue we hope to start the process of healing our communities from the sores of hatred and the torment of wars,” he added
Birmingham based band Aa’shiq al Rasul (www.aashiqalrasul.com) will perform on Saturday Dec 23rd to the 15,000 RIS participants. “We are all creatures of God and we have to share this universe. It is important that we try our best to get people to love each other rather than despise each other. It was this energy of love that embodied the mission and message of the Prophet Muhammad who was a Mercy for all of Mankind,” says Amran Ellahi lead singer of the group. Amran continued by saying “this is the message we are taking to the RIS convention in Toronto.”
