December 23, 2006 (Press Release) --
In a matter of weeks she has put together a three camera team and landed some of Dallas top talent to be in her romantic comedy film entitled 'The Significant Other'. "Russell Reynolds, (Prison Break) LeeAnne Locken, (Miss Congeniality) and Drew Waters, (Inspector Mom) all just jumped on the project" Shalene says "I am still not sure how I got everyone here, but they are and as a first time director I am so flattered and excited. I get to run a three camera shoot with aerial footage and work with some of the most talented cast that Dallas has to offer."
The film is set in a gorgeous 111 year old Victorian mansion in Gainesville TX that looks like it should be a top class bed and breakfast and is nestled among many other large Victorian homes. "Filming there during Christmas was amazing. Everyone was so nice and the neighborhood is so pretty" LeeAnne said.
"The premise of the story is just great" Russell says. It is a romantic comedy about Clara, (LeeAnne Locken) that wants to run a B&B and because she is single, her neighbors talk her into creating a 'significant other' by taking pictures with Marty (Drew Waters) and sporting a rock the size of Kansas. Her first guest (Russell Reynolds) shows up and he is single and attracted to her, but he thinks she's married. She doesn't know how to tell him she's not really married and, after running into her "husband" with his male lover, Rick doesn't know how to tell her that her husband is gay and cheating on her. "It’s a fun story" says Drew Waters "and I can’t wait to finish shooting the movie" The film is set to resume principal photography after the holidays and will release in September 2007.
The Significant Other is one of many independent features being shot in Texas, which just goes to show that the Film industry is very much alive and growing in the area.

The Film industry here in Texas is growing and hungry for good films to work on. New Producer/Director Shalene Portman is still stumped by her good fortune to be part of this industry at such a time.
