Miss USA Tara Conner Lives to Drink Another Day: She is sooo going to rehab
In an uncharacteristic show of mercy, The Donald agreed to let Miss USA Tara Conner keep her crown, despite the controversy surrounding her drinking and alleged drug use this week.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) December 23, 2006 --
The catch? She is sooo going to rehab.
Says the Donald: "She's agreed to go into rehab. She knows that if she makes even the slightest mistake from here on, she will be immediately replaced. I believe she can do a tremendous service to young people."
The Donald is well known to be a teetotaler, as his older brother died of alcoholism. This is a really cool choice on his part for several reasons. Firstly, it portrays the Miss Universe pageant as being loyal to its own, and, secondly, it positions Conner to, for the first time in the history of the pageant, actually serve as a positive role model for young women. The typical Miss USA is essentially a caricature of herself -- a beautiful, smiling, waving waif who wants world peace. None of these characteristics are particularly actionable or useful. But to see a beautiful, smiling, waving young woman battle addiction, like real young women do, and to watch her be given the opportunity to seek help and address the problem, has the potential to send a strong, positive, honest message to young women everywhere. I think this is probably a first for Miss USA.
Conner responded to Trump: "In no way did I think it would be possible for a second chance to be given to me. You'll never know what this means to me, and I swear I will not let you down."
She's missing the point. Now, Tara, it's not The Donald you have to worry about letting down. It's all the young women who are watching you.
